BEST ALBUMS OF LAST YEAR

Better late than never.

10. ARCTIC MONKEYS - Favourite Worst Nightmare

(colourful shoes, catchy songs, great drumming.... im SOLD)
9. ANDREW BIRD - Armchair Apocrypha

(violin player....not as good as last album....but still awesome)

8. OKKERVIL RIV
ER - The Stage Names

(some of the best lyrics ever...then they bust into The Beach Boys "Sloop John B." at the end.....im SOLD)

7. STAFRAENN HAKON -
Gummi

(Sigur Ros-ish.  Good shit.)

6. PINBACK -
Autumn of the Seraphs

(So good.  The good songs are very good...the bad songs are okay.....but the good songs make it 2awsum)

5. IRON AND WINE -
The Good Shepherd

(Have you seen this guy's Beard?!?)

4.
GRAILS - Burning Off Impurities

(This is like a trip around the world.  The WHOLE world.  Persia....then India....then the Wild West....then, woah, India again.  This shit is amazing.  Amazing.)

3.
BAND OF HORSES - Cease To Begin

(Have you seen this guy's Beard?!  Sheesh.  Also....This was basically the soundtrack for our Honeymoon....and reminds me of Maui)

2. ARCADE FIRE -
Neon Bible

(its easy to forget this album came out this year.  It's very timeless.  It's a nobrainer to be in the top 2.  The horns in NO CARS GO are worth it alone.)

1. RADIOHEAD -
In Rainbows

This album is phenomenal.  With all the video's they released of their shenanigans and goofing around in their studio.... they de-mystified (or de-radioheaded) themselves.  This only makes it that much better.  unlike Hillary shedding a tear.  or Paul Martin putting on a Cowboy Vest.  or Robert Stanfield (running for Prime Minister) tossing a football around for a perfect photo-op and then getting hit in the balls .....  This attempt at "humanizing" works.  Radiohead is like you and me......except for the fact that they can write ridiculously good music over and over again....and seem to hit full stride SEVEN albums in."

Whether I realized it or not...Ive been trying to make the most perfect album cover in my mind.  Combining all things I love....into one magical picture.  It was only today that I realized this.  I didn't even KNOW that my mind was searching for this (proof that mind and soul are two completely different beings).  I came across the new album by the band THIS WILL DESTROY YOU.  One look at the cover was a spiritual experience.  One look at the cover and my Mind said to my Soul "The Holy Grail.....at last".  Or was it the other way around?  Could it be?  Could it have been my soul searching high and low for such perfection?

I think of how, when I was a kid, I would go to sleep....but then my Mind (or soul) would be working so diligently.....careening through my dreamscapes....in search of the perfect album cover....nay, the perfect Picture.  19 years of this (7 years of searching for candy).  Without me even realizing!

I feel a sense of overwhelming.  I want to share this with the world.  I want to Yell at the top of my lungs from the peak of the highest mountain.  But I guess in this case....I'd like to bring a gigantic  screen....or white bed sheet would work....and then put that up in the sky....and then go to the top of the highest mountain....and use a projector...and then project the image of this cover onto the sheet....so that anyone in the vicinity could see.  For now....I'll just use this measly blog.

P.s. The album is amazing (especially when looking at the cover WHILE listening)

POINT FORM!!!!

-Have you seen the preview for THERE WILL BE BLOOD yet?  You really should.  Daniel Day-Lewis will win 50 awards for his role with a mustache here.  That guy can't lose!

- I have an affinity for horribly cheesy ringtones.  What's worse (read: better)?
                James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" OR
The Rembrandts "I'll Be There For You" (Friends Theme) OR
Barenaked Ladies "If I Had A Million Dollars"

Seriously... hearing these in public is a highlight to ANYONE'S day.  And if you DO hear one of them....look around for ME.
